options for finding and installing FFmpeg

hey all i thought i would post to help some people out, since ffmpeg can be really confusing and messy to install here are some options for getting it installed. i have seen allot of posts here and on the drupal forums about it so i thought i would post here since most people who need it will be using this module.

if you are looking for a shared server of some kind most server companies already have a path to ffmpeg they will give you.
most companies will not say or show the path you have to contact them for it.

if the company offers cpanel panel find out if they provide a drupal install and a gallery2 install if they do they most likely will have a path to ffmpeg.

if the server company has been approved by gallery2 staff it will have ffmpeg installed

plus if you order off of the gallery page they get a little cash which helps a free open source project that interfaces well with drupal

if you are on a shared server that does not provide it you are most likely stuck since it is a shared server

if you have a dedicated server like i do you can do any thing you want to it and with it the ffmpeg binary is a b!tch to get working the best option i have found so far is if you use cpanel with WHM there is an extra for WHM that is called
WHM extra it costs about 20.00 and does allot of things that you would otherwise have to install using ssh commands

it also installs ffmpeg for you as well.

plus if the install does not work correctly you can get free support and they will help you get it working.

i just got a dedicated server and installed whm and whmExtra and every thing worked great but it took allot time to find the info and i waisted about 9 hours trying to install ffmpeg my self before spending 2 hours searching the web for an installer.

hope this information helps some one!
